the curdled sea, 2024

Audio and visual installation (Makey Makey circuit, wires, bladderwrack, knotted wrack, channelled wrack seaweeds)

The Curdled Sea is an ongoing project started by Sam Godfrey and Jack Perkins in 2024 as part of their residency at the Arctic Hideaway on the island of Fleinvær, Norway. Inspired by descriptions of masses of seaweed wrapped around boats as 'the curdled sea' by sailors in the 12th century, they collaborated with seaweed to create a squishy physical controller for an interactive sound and video work sampled from the surrounding island and ocean.
